Colour in Picasso's Blue period paintings

Color plays an important role in our world. Color can influence our thinking and action. In design, we know that beside the basic rules, colour has great effect on viewer. If we choose the right colour, it will strengthen our piece. When we used the colour in the right way, colour can save on energy consumption. Actually, using the right colour is quite difficult. Colour perception differs in each country. Example, red means prosperous and success in China but red also has different meaning such as fatal, danger…
We can see how colour affects the mood of the paintings in the following link :

This link will lead you to the website in which you can change the colour of the painting “ Tragedy” of Pablo Picasso to see how colour affects to a master piece.

This painting, “ Tragedy”, was painted by Picasso in his early twenties. From 1901 to 1904 was called the Blue period in Picasso paintings. In this period, all the paintings were painted in a pale, cold blue. During this time, he used mainly shade of blue to portrayed the poor in the town in which he lived such as beggars, alcoholics, poor
musicians…
In this period, the blue shade in his paintings portrayed the sight of human misery, and expressed this feeling in sober, ascetic, austere works. Although the blue shade portrayed the misery part of the town, I also feel the light of hope, the light of life through the shape of main objects whenever I view paintings in this period such as the painting” The old guitarist” or “ Tragedy”
