Designer's portfolio

A portfolio is very important to designers. It is the world of creativity, the gallery of work. Through the portfolio, we can see the designer’s work, thinking, their creativeness and even their inner mind. If you possess a good portfolio, you can have great opportunity in the future. A portfolio is what your boss will look at first. :D

In DIM 1 and 2, we are required to create our own portfolio. DIM 1, my portfolio is paper based and DIM2, it is a blog. Although using computer to make portfolio is somewhat easier to do and your portfolio can be easily viewed by other people, a paper based portfolio also have its own value. Just like books. Paper books are always cost more than e-books.

I wonder that a portfolio of professional designers look like?
The following link will lead you to the portfolio of Christopher Morlan – a very simple but impressive one.

I will introduced you about this designer :
“Christopher Morlan graduated from Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2004. Right out of school, he was hired as a creative director with Crescent Jewelers at an impressive salary. Granted, he was not a typical BFA grad—he had been to two universities and worked in agencies for seven years when he entered design school. But that experience would not have helped him without a stunning book. And stunning it is not because of the design, which is very good, but because of the narrative it creates. It leaves you feeling as though you know the person behind the design. Let’s see how he did it.”

Yes, I was impressed at the first time I saw it. It is not like what we used to do today. I don’t like things too complex or too colorful. I like the designs that are simple but meaningful, have colors but not too much.As we say " Less is more, simple things will free our energy when look at them and we will find much more meaning from them. This portfolio is very impressive. Morlan successfully creates negative space. The color and decoration is also not too much but very atractive. Morlan combined successfully traditional and contemporary forms….

Just have a look at it and tell me what you think about his portfolio.

I have took a look at this portfolio. It really impressed me. I remember what you say about the particular cover page which looks like it was made by metal with a scratch in the front. Its contents represent the characteristic and personality of Christopher Morlan. I also remember the Visual Diary in the last semester and get many lessons from this portfolio.
